Wine information
Il Palagione is located outside the beautiful and ancient Tuscan town of San Gimignano. Its skyline of medieval towers guides visitors to its stone streets and picturesque fortressed walls. The estate, dating back to 1594, is owned by Monica Rota and her husband Giorgio Comotti. They purchased it in 1996 for a change of life where the seasons would pass gently, and their lives would be full of pastoral beauty rather than of 'honking horns'. This barrel aged Vernaccia is unique and appealing. The freshness of the variety is giving volume without being overly oaky with notes of green apple, lime, sweet nuts and a silky finish.
Robin says "For those who are white Burgundy fans, Giorgio's Ori Vernaccia is worth exploring. Grown on soils rich in sea fossils, this Vernaccia is fermented in both stainless steel and French oak barrels. The result is a creamy, gently toasty wine that is notably sculpted and fresh but with a bit more presence than his straight Vernaccia."
