Wine information
Created in 2009, Matthew Fritz is a joint venture between Matt Bonanno of BonAnno Vintners and Fritz Stuhlmuller. Their approach was simple: combine their collective experience in winemaking, contacts with grape growers and wineries in the North Coast and produce wines of incredible value since they both felt that California wines were becoming ever dearer. The Matthew Fritz wines are produced out of Healdsburg in Sonoma, with most of the grapes coming from Sonoma and Mendocino counties. Their goal is to produce wines that are authentic, clean and true to the varietal, which will not break the bank. Their North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon expresses classic varietal notes of pencil lead, blackberries, plums and cedar with nuances of earth. Its slightly chewy palate leads to a flavoursome finish.
RK Says "California wines have become progressively more "boutiquey" over the years with the pricetags to prove it, whilst lesser expensive wines often feel a bit generic. So it is refreshing when smaller winemakers fill the gap in between - more affordable wine with character. Almost Old World in style, this Cabernet Sauvignon delivers a nicely balanced, fresh palate with a bit of bite that could nicely accompany red meat dishes."
