Oldenburg Vineyards lies in an elevated area of outstanding beauty, Banghoek Valley, which means "scary corner" due to the roaming leopards. Only 8 kilometres from Stellenbosch on the road to Franschhoek, you will find their vineyards surrounded by a spectacular mountain amphitheatre. At the heart of the farm lies Rondekop – their iconic, round hill which influences the vineyards planted on and around it. In 2003 current owner and entrepreneur, Adrian Vanderspuy, acquired Oldenburg from his grandmother. He began analyzing the terroir and climate before replanting the vines, giving the estate a new life. The result is nothing short of spectacular. On sight this Cabernet Franc is a rich garnet colour and the nose offers fresh herbal notes such as green bell pepper and paprika. The palate comes to life with vibrant redcurrants and pomegranate. Great acidity and elegant tannins create a juicy and very moreish wine.
Robin says "Cabernet Franc is one of the smaller productions of the Oldenberg estate with only around 500 cases produced. This wine represents a typical "cooler climate" expression of the variety with subtle tomato leaf notes intertwined with a plump fruit core."
