The dynamic duo at Ramirez de la Piscina

How did you get started in wine? 

We are the forth generation working under the brand Ramirez de la Piscina (our family name), but as far as we know, my family has been producing wine since forever.

My brother (Salvador - left) and I (Sonia - right) run and manage the winery. We have grown up literally inside the winery. From a very young age learning how the winery works and participating in all the tasks. When we had the chance to choose our professional and academic development, we decided to go on with what our family worked so hard to develop, the Ramirez de la Piscina Winery and the wine industry.

What is the best thing about producing wine?

To feel and see all the processes, from the vineyard to the glass. For example, right now, Wine&Earth has the Crianza Selección 2019 available, I remember perfectly how the vineyards were behaving that year, how the weather was and how the grapes entered in the winery.

Describe your best wine and food pairing?

Each wine has a different pairing, and of course I have many ideas with Spanish food. But thinking about something more international I would suggest to pair the Selección Reserva with some beef tenderloin and mushrooms. This wine, needs something powerful, something that makes you feel hungry!
