Domaine du Banneret Châteauneuf du Pape 2019
£49.00
Tracing its origins back to 1405, Domaine de Banneret is a small 5-hectare property situated right in the heart of Cheateauneuf-du-Pape. Located on the characteristic galet-covered soil, the vineyards are divided in 9 parcels. This wine is "old school" and one of the few producers who are still using all 13 traditional grape varieties. Labelling is all done by hand when orders are placed. It is hard to get more bespoke than this. Their 2014 is wonderfully aromatic with floral, strawberry and fresh menthol notes. The palate is moderately rich, earthy and spicy. This is a deep and satisfying wine and will age like a dream. Everything you want from southern French red. Only 10,000 bottles made per year.
Robin says "I absolutely adore the wines from Domaine du Banneret. They have such character and soul and despite their richness, they do not feel heavy. As John Livingston-Learmonth, Britain’s most established wine writer of Rhône Valley wines states, “If you seek The Real Thing, then here it is.” Just superb."
