Domaine Jeannin Naltet Mercurey 1er Cru Clos de Grands Voyens 2016
Jeannet-Naltet is a re-born domaine. Before 2015, they sold off their wine in bulk. When it was time for a generational shift to take place, there was no obvious heir apparent. So, the family's nephew, Benoît, who knew nothing of being a vigneron, agreed to leave his engineering career in Paris. The trade-off…he wanted to bottle his own wines. It sounds a bit like a Hollywood script, but Benoît worked tirelessly at winemaking school, while reworking the vineyards. In just a few short years, he is now making world class wines. His Grands Voyens is his largest vineyard and a "monopole". It also produces his most powerful wine. The 2016 is deep, rich and mouthfilling with lots of plummy fruit and minerals. Particularly impressive for the price!
Robin says "I was so enthusiastic about tasting winemaker Benoît's wines for the first time. For someone who is just starting out, the quality and inviduality of his wines really sang. His Clos de Grands Voyens has a high percentage of clay, which gives it some grip and firmness on its finish. But its core is just delicious. A wonderful domaine to discover."
