Domaine Sylvain Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru 'Champs-Gains' Blanc 2016
£70.00
The dynamic Sylvain Morey only has a few Burgundy vintages under his belt (first vintage was 2014), but he is no newcomer. Sylvain is the son of Jean-Marc Morey of Chassagne-Montrachet and the brother of Caroline Morey (married to cult wine producer Pierre-Yves Colin). His confident, thoughtful nature can be felt in the wines. He likes wines that are fully expressive but still taut and mineral. This 1er cru opens up with aromatic spice, candied lemon and toasted brioche. Despite some richness on the core, its minerality and brightness surfaces on the end. Lovely length.
Robin says "Sylvain's Champs Gains is produced from vines that are 65 years old so yields tend to be small and its wine expressive. This wine's sappy fruit makes it so moreish but its layers and length make it interesting."
