Domaine Sylvain Morey Chassagne Montrachet Rouge 2018
£35.00
The dynamic Sylvain Morey only has a few Burgundy vintages under his belt (first vintage was 2014), but he is no newcomer. Sylvain is the son of Jean-Marc Morey of Chassagne-Montrachet and the brother of Caroline Morey (married to cult wine producer Pierre-Yves Colin). His confident, thoughtful nature can be felt in the wines. He likes wines that are fully expressive but still taut and mineral. This Chassagne Rouge has great structure and some lively acidity. A delicious 2018 that shows off the fruit and freshness of the vintage with plump wild strawberries, floral notes and a touch of spice. Sappy and succulent.
Robin says "Though the village of Chassagne-Montrachet is more associated with white wine today, for many years it was a Pinot Noir-dominant commune. Thankfully to some producers like Sylvain, the reds are still being produced. I love them for their lacy, fresh touch. His village Chassagne is perfect for those who prefer more ethereal Pinot."
