Greyfriars Vineyard Yvonne 2021
£16.50
Greyfriars Vineyard is located on the sunny south facing chalk slopes of the ‘Hog’s Back’ at Puttenham just outside of Guildford in the Surrey Hills. With 40 acres under vine, they plant the classic Champagne varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. Their range reflects the unique local soil conditions, climate, and heritage of the Surrey North Downs. Their still white 'Yvonne' is the second in a series of limited-edition wines celebrating a chapter in local English history, which identifies the unsung heroines of the SOE in World War II who trained at nearby Wanborough Manor.
Yvonne Cormeau was a radio operator who was parachuted into southern France in 1943 to work with the local resistance. She survived 13 months of active service without being caught by the Germans and returned to the UK after this area of France was liberated in September 1944. The wine is a blend of Pinot Gris and Chardonnay from their 2021 vintage, delicate and light, yet fresh and aromatic, it certainly celebrates the best of the North Downs.
