Le Bonheur Wine Estate Petit Verdot Reserve 2019
With a history dating back to the 1700s, Le Bonheur Wine Estate epitomises the rich heritage of Stellenbosch. Historically “Le Bonheur” (meaning happiness) was a resting place for travellers and traders, offering lush green surroundings and natural spring waters. It is situated along the slopes of the Klapmuts Hill in the northern reaches of the Simonsberg Mountain, in the Stellenbosch Wine of Origin district. "Klapmuts" is the old Dutch word for the 18th century cocked hat that folded away into the saddle back pocket and, indeed, when observed from a distance, the hill resembles such a hat. Today the estate retains its sense of place, timeless setting and rich heritage and has become the sister property to L'Avenir Estate. Their 2018 Petit Verdot Reserve is a selection of the vintage's top barrel and exudes a rich, deep ruby-purple colour and appealing notes of black cherry coulis, blueberry, violets, cedar and spice. A wine with polish and depth.
Robin says 'Petit Verdot is often regarded as the "dark horse" of the Bordeaux varieties for its deep colour and often brooding, dense palate. Le Bonheur's version is more approachable than many French versions with its velvety texture, juicy fruit core, fresh acidity and notable length. A very successful underdog that is worth discovering.'
