Philippe Glavier Folie de Cramant Grand Cru Extra Brut 2011 (Magnum)
£125.00
Philippe and Véronique make some of the most stylish Blanc de Blancs Champagne we have ever tried. Even their labels are beautiful and are graced by playful and elegant cherubs. It might sound a bit frou frou, but it isn’t. They have 4.5 hectares with over 47 plots that have many different nuances of soil types and sun exposure which all contribute different attributes to their wines. Produced exclusively from Chardonnay from Cramant and bottled only in magnum, this impressive 2011 delivers an impressive depth of fruit, minerality and layers. Opening up with notes of succulent dried fruits, it leads to a moderately rich but lifted palate, revealing a tinge of cinnamon before finishing on appealing biscuity notes.
Robin says "A truly special Grand Cru Champagne that is vinified in oak barrel before being aged on its lees for over 5 years. The Glaviers bottled it only in magnum to further accentuate its "specialness". Even though 2011 was a slightly riper vintage, it has such polish and vibrancy. Just a beautiful Champagne that embodies the balance for which Cramant is known."
